UZBEKISTAN: A GREAT ESCAPE ON THE SILK ROAD

The route goes through Fergana – Marghilan-Richton -Kokand- Tashkent –Nukus-Mouynak -Khiva-Bukhara–Samarkand –Shakhrisabz.

The two-thousand-year-old call of the Golden Road leading to Samarkand, of the Royal Road leading away from Bukhara the Noble, or of the Road of the Self crisscrossing Transoxiana and the Kyzil-koum desert from the Fergana valley to at the Khorezm oasis.

To discover the sites of the Silk Road by train and to explore cities and their historical monuments, to find yourself in the culture and daily life of the Uzbek people – it’s very mythical.

The day by day program:

Day 1: Paris – Istanbul – Ferghana

Flight to Uzbekistan. Arrival in Ferghana at 2:00 p.m. Welcome by your French-speaking guide and transfer to the hotel. After a short rest, start of the city tour.

D2: Ferghana – Marghilan

You will have breakfast. After breakfast we start our tour with Fergana and visit the Al-Fergany park, the city museum and the mercher and a short stroll in the city. Lunch. Afternoon we leave for Marghilan (16 km by car). This city is one of the major producers of silk, famous for its “Ikat” and “Batik” fabrics. Visit the town of Marghilan and its monuments, the 14th century Juma mosque and silk factories (visit a large silk workshop). Return to Ferghana. Dinner.

D3: Fergana-Kokand .100km by car

Breakfast . Departure for Kokand via Richtan. We go to Richtan city of ceramics and visit a ceramic workshop. Lunch on the road. Arriving in Kokand, we visit its historical monuments, the Juma mosque (18s) and the palace of Khan Khudayakhan (19s). Walk around town. Dinner. Night at the hotel

Day 4: Kokand-Tashkent (240km) by car – flight to Nukus.

Breakfast. We continue the road to Tashkent via the “Kamchik” pass at 2,200 meters above sea level. Arrival in Tashkent. Lunch and visit the city. We discover the Tashkent metro, Timur Square and Independence Square. Transfer to the airport and flight to Noukus. Picnic dinner.

Flight at 8:00 p.m. Arrival in Nukus 9:40 p.m.

Day 5: Noukus- Mouynak-Noukous. 400 km by car

Breakfast. Departure for Mouynak, an ancient port city located on the ancient coast of the Aral Sea. Lunch and visit the cemetery of the ships. We can see the results of the Soviet policy which dried up the sea. After the visit we return to Nukus via Khodjayli. We visit the necropolis of Mizdakkhan. Depending on the sunset times we can admire magnificent sunset over the necropolis.

Day 6: Nukus-Ayazkhala-Khiva.250km by car

Breakfast. Departure for Khiva via Ayazkhala. We discover the beauty of the Kizylkoum desert and the ruins of the citadels of the 7th-8th centuries (Touprokkala and Ayazkala). Lunch, road to Khiva, arrival at the end of the day and check-in at the hotel.

Day 7: Khiva

Breakfast Guided tour of the city (mosques, madrasas, palaces, etc.).

This ancient city on the Road of the Self, capital of the khanate since the 17th century, is located in the middle of the Khorezm oasis. Today, the city consists of two parts, inner Itchan Kala and outer Dichan-Khala. Itchan Kala is a real open museum. You will explore the labyrinth of its streets, in search of the Tach-Khaouli Palace, formerly the accommodation of the women of the harem. You will discover true architectural masterpieces of Khorezm such as the medressas, mausoleums and mosques dominated by their typical and magnificent minarets. Lunch and Dinner in town

Day 8: Khiva-Bukhara. 450km by car

Breakfast . . Transfer day to Bukhara. Lunch en route Arrival, check-in at the hotel, rest and stroll through the old town of Bukhara. Dinner. Night at the hotel.

Day 9: Bukhara

Breakfast. Two more full days devoted to Bukhara and its many sites, bazaars and monuments: we begin our visit with Koch-Madrasa, the Samanid Park with the mausoleum, the basar, Bolo Khaouz square, Lunch. Afternoon visit the Ark citadel, the Chorsous, famous covered markets, architectural masterpiece of the 20th century and the Poïkalian district, the Madersa Mir-I-Arab and Jouma mosque.

Dinner. Night at the hotel.

Day 10: Bukhara

Breakfast. The morning is devoted to visiting the monuments outside the city. The Sitoraï-Moxi-Xosa palace, Fayzulla Khodjaev house museum. Lunch. Afternoon visit the Nakchbandy necropolis, free time to immerse yourself in personal discoveries.

Dinner. Night at the hotel

Day 11: Bukhara -Samarkand.300km

Breakfast. Departure for Samarkand. We cross the ancient Silk Road called the Royal Road. On the road we will visit the ruins of the caravanserai and the Sardoba of the 11th century. Arrival and Lunch. Here too, two days are devoted to visiting this mythical city + free time. We begin our visit with the History Museum, the tomb of Saint Daniel, the Ulug-Beg observatory.

Dinner. Night at the hotel

Day 12: Samarkand

Breakfast. During this day, you will have the opportunity to discover the different sites that make this city famous. Reghistan Square is a true masterpiece of Persian art, with the Medressas (Islamic universities) of Ulug-Beg, Shir-Dor or Tilla-Kari. Another famous site, the Great Mosque of Bibi Khanum, whose name comes from Tamerlane’s Chinese wife. Visit the mausoleums of Chakhi Zinda and Gour Emir which houses the mortal remains of Tamerlane, his sons and Ulug-Beg. Depending on the possibilities and your desires, you will attend a sound and light show on Reghistan Square (at your charge)..

Day 13: Samarkand – Ourgut-Tersak (50km)

Breakfast. Departure for Ourgut, a large village in Samarkand known with its bazaar and its 500-year-old plane trees. After visiting the market and the plane trees, we arrive at Tersak, a small typical Uzbek village located in the Zarafchane mountains, to discover rural life and a small balde by meeting the inhabitants of the village.

Dinner and Night at a Local’s Home.

Day 14: Samarkand – Shakhrisabz.100km by car

Breakfast. Road to Chakhrisabz, birthplace of Tamerlan. Visit to its summer palace, leisurely stroll along Ipak-Yoli Street, the city’s main artery, discovering the monuments (mausoleum, mosque, Tamerlane’s crypt, etc.). Return to Samarkand at the end of the day. Dinner.

Day 15: Samarkand

Breakfast. Free day to stroll around town. Free lunch.

Dinner. Night at the hotel.

Day 16: Samarkand-Paris

Breakfast. Depending on schedule, transfer to the airport. Flight to Paris (via Istanbul)
